HE Mr. Karl Xuereb was born in Malta on 15th March 1960.
Mr. Xuereb is currently Malta’s resident Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. He presented his credentials to the Federal President of the Republic of Germany, H.E. Mr Christian Wulff, on 3rd August 2010.
Between 2006 and 2010 he served as resident Ambassador of Malta to the People’s Republic of China and concurrently as Malta’s Ambassador to Japan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and as High Commissioner to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
He was educated at St. Edward’s College, St. Aloysius College and De La Salle College in Malta. He is a graduate in Accountancy of Liverpool John Moores University, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and holds an MBA from Warwick Business School. He speaks Maltese, English and Italian.
After graduating he trained with Deloitte at their London office moving on to Price Waterhouse in Milan after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. During his professional career he has held many managerial and board level positions. He served the Bank of Valletta Group as Assistant General Manager and Head of Strategic Planning and Mid-Med Bank (now HSBC Bank Malta) as Director of European Business. At Bank of Valletta Group he also served as Deputy Chairman of the Marketing Committee and as a member of the Bank’s Finance Committee. More recently he led the start up and establishment of Creditinfo Malta as Managing Director.
He has served on the Board of a number of companies in both private and public sectors including the Malta Export Credit Guarantee Company Ltd, Valletta Investment Bank Ltd, Mid-Med Overseas Ltd and the Charles A Micallef (CAM) Group.
The Ambassador is married to Daniela nee Sambati and has a son Andrea.
