How to effect payment
Payment of fees may be made in cash, or by cheque written out to the Embassy of Malta in France.

2. Maltese Citizenship
As of the 1st August 2007, a new Maltese law has been introduced, which gives citizenship rights to all Maltese of 2nd generation that were born outside Malta. Besides, this law gives the same rights to 3rd, 4th and all generations after that.
This law was set up to facilitate this process and all that is needed to obtain Maltese citizenship is to prove the ancestry from a person born in Malta whose parents were also born in Malta. Persons wishing to go through this process are to provide birth and wedding certificates of all ancestors, till the person born in Malta (and his/her parents), as proof of the applicant’s ancestry.
Applications for citizenship will be furnished by this Embassy. Guidance will also be given with respect to requirements and fees payable. Upon receipt the applications, duly completed and accompanied by the relevant certificates, will be forwarded by the Consulate to the Department for Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs for processing.

3. Authentication of Documents / Signature
Authentication implies certifying a stamp, seal or signature as genuine. The Maltese Embassy may authenticate official stamps or seals issued by a Maltese Government Authority. Such documents may either be sent by post or delivered by hand. The Maltese Embassy may also authenticate a signature. In this case the individual, who must produce a valid identification card, must sign in front of the Consul.
The fee for this service is €27.50.
4. Legalisation
The Maltese Consulate may legalise documents which bear the Apostille Certificate of the Maltese Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a signature from an authorised person.
The fee for this service is €27.50.
5. Marriage
Maltese citizens, who intend contracting marriage in France, must initially request the Marriage Registry, as well as the Public Registry in Malta, to issue two documents confirming applicant’s free status. Upon receipt of the said two documents the Embassy of Malta issues a certificate (referred to as “Certificat de Coutume”) confirming applicant’s free status. No fee is charged for this service.
6. Visas
Applications, which are accessible from the Ministry’s official website, will be submitted, duly completed and accompanied by the required documentation, to the Embassy. Following initial relevant enquiries carried out by the Embassy, applications and relative documentation, are referred to the competent authorities in Malta for processing.
