Mr. Dennis Grech, charge d’affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Malta in Washington DC, together with representatives from some 40 other Missions and international organisations, signed the ‘District of Columbia, Diplomatic Missions and International Institutions Environmental Performance, Climate and Sustainability Pledge’, during a ceremony held at the Embassy of the Netherlands on 31st January.  Mr. Vincent Gray, Mayor of the District of Columbia, participated in the event and signed the Pledge on behalf of the District.

The Pledge is sponsored by the DC Greening Embassies Forum, the US State Department and the District Department of the Environment (DDOE). It encourages Diplomatic Missions based in Washington DC to adopt simple environmentally-friendly practices such as encouraging their workforce to make use of the city’s mass transit system and ensuring the use of cleaning supplies, programs, procedures as well as consumable and durable goods that comply with relevant eco-friendly standards.

The Pledge serves to highlight the diplomatic community’s commitment to the District’s environmental goals.
