On the 5th March, the Embassy of Malta pioneered a novel conferencing medium – the Interactive Webinar. This cost-effective medium permits top decision-makers in Malta to address and answer questions live and visually from participants located several thousand kilometres away.
On this pioneering occasion, the Hon. Tonio Fenech, Minister of Finance the Economy and Investments, Mr Kenneth Farrugia, Chairman of Finance Malta, Mr Alan Camilleri, Chairman of Malta Enterprise, and Mr Kevin Drake, Communications Executive with the Malta Tourism Authority were able to update and reply to questions by eighteen Honorary Consuls representing Malta in the United States, Canada and in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The panel in Malta was moderated by Dr Georg Sapiano; the one in Miami by H.E. Mr. Mark Miceli-Farrugia, Ambassador of Malta to the United States and High Commissioner to Canada and the Bahamas.
Ambassador Miceli-Farrugia commented that “the Interactive Webinar is a highly effective medium which permits people of similar interests to meet - even when located thousands of kilometres away. It reduces expensive traveling time while placing participants in the presence of key policy-makers. As long as we raise the necessary funds, we shall be organizing Webinars between Malta and different venues overseas about varied subjects on a regular basis.”
The Webinar was organized concurrently with a Seminar and Exhibition about Malta’s Temple Heritage. The Seminar, attended by over 200 enthusiasts, was addressed by Prof. Alex Torpiano, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Engineering at the University of Malta and by Mr. Daniel Cilia, Malta’s internationally renowned photographer. Mr Cilia’s photographs comprised the exhibits. These exhibits with their mounts are portable and will be carried throughout North America for viewing in the Honorary Consuls’ scattered jurisdictions.
