Christopher Mercieca joined the Malta Public Service in 1980, and was appointed Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organisations in Geneva, Switzerland in April 2006. From 2004 to 2006 Mr. Mercieca was Chef de Cabinet within Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he constantly accompanied the Minister of Foreign Affairs to international forums. He was also deeply involved in matters dealing with the EU and with CHOGM. While holding this position  he also assisted in implementing the internal re-structuring of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1995 and 2003 Mr Mercieca worked as a consultant with a number of consultancy firms and dealt with a variety of fields including areas involving both the Public and Private Sector. Furthermore, between 1988 and 1994 he held managerial position with Dowty Seals Ltd and Uniroyal Chemical Inc UK. Born on 24 January 1958, Christopher Mercieca holds a B.Sc. from the University of Malta and M.Sc. from Queens University in Canada. He is also ACCA certified in Cost Accountancy, Management and Law. Mr Mercieca is fluent in Maltese and English and is conversant in Italian and French. He is married and has three children.
